The Mechanical Dewatering Paradigm: Modern Industrial Screw Press Engineering

Industrial solid-liquid separation represents a core operational anchor for sectors spanning environmental protection, bio-fermentation, starch processing, starch derivative manufacturing, and municipal waste management. As global ecological regulations become increasingly strict, relying solely on thermal drying options without optimizing pre-concentrated cake moisture indexes is cost-prohibitive.

An optimized mechanical screw press acts as the critical bridge, extracting bulk liquid continuous phases before materials enter thermal systems. Our manufacturing expertise shows that optimizing pre-drying mechanical dewatering reduces energy costs. Solid recovery indexes climb while operating footprints drop by over 40% compared to traditional separation screens.

Screw Press Technology Roadmap & Metallurgy Evolution

Developing high-capacity screw presses requires a deep understanding of fluid dynamics, material wear profiles, and high compression mechanics. The roadmap below highlights the core features designed to withstand continuous shear forces and corrosive chemicals.

Variable Pitch Engineering

By reducing the screw flight pitch and expanding the main shaft diameter, we create a dynamic compression profile. This design increases pressure along the shaft to prevent material blockages while maximizing water removal.

Advanced Surface Metallurgy

Using materials like SUS304, SUS316L, and Duplex 2205 stainless steel ensures reliable corrosion resistance. We also apply a flame-sprayed tungsten carbide layer to the flight outer edges to protect against abrasion.

Automated Torque Control

Integrated sensor networks feed back to variable-frequency drives (VFDs) via PLC systems, optimizing feed rates on the fly to match changes in incoming slurry viscosity.

MQG Airflow Dryer Application

Connecting Separation with Thermal Systems

A screw press rarely runs as an isolated machine. For maximum thermal efficiency, it is typically paired with evaporators and dryers. In starch processing and DDGS production, waste streams are split into solids and liquids.

The liquid fraction goes to our MVR Evaporators or Falling Film Evaporation Plants, concentrating low-solids liquids into syrupy concentrates. At the same time, the wet cake from the single screw press is combined with this concentrate before entering our ZXG Tube Bundle Dryer or MQG Airflow Dryer. This systematic approach reduces steam consumption, cuts energy usage, and helps plants hit zero-liquid-discharge (ZLD) benchmarks.

Evaporators Integration

Pairs with MVR and Multi-effect falling film evaporation configurations to capture high-density liquid runoffs, returning clean condensate to the plant.

ZXG Tube Bundle Dryers

Takes the dewatered cake and uses indirect steam contact to dry industrial starches and fibers down to stable storage moisture levels.

MQG Airflow Dryers

Utilizes high-speed heated air streams to suspend wet particulates, completing flash dewatering in seconds for light, heat-sensitive powders.

China Factory 4.0: Supply Chain Resilience & Quality Control

Based in Zhoutie Town, Yixing City—near Taihu Lake—Jiangsu Zongheng operates out of a modern 54,000-square-meter facility with over 22,000 square meters of specialized production workshops. As a member of the China Starch and Alcohol Association, we utilize advanced manufacturing tools, including heavy-duty rolling mills, plasma profile cutters, and robotic welding stations.

Operating in Yixing gives us access to a highly integrated industrial cluster. From raw steel suppliers to specialized heat treatment centers, we manage lead times tightly to deliver cost-effective equipment. In-house design and fabrication mean we maintain full quality control over every structural element and pressurized component.

Frequently Asked Questions About Industrial Screw Presses

Q1: What parameters dictate the selection of a Single Screw Press over a Decanter Centrifuge?
A: The selection depends on feed solids content, particle size, and energy limits. A Single Screw Press is ideal for fibrous, coarse, or highly compressible materials (like corn fiber, potato pulp, or paper pulp) with low energy consumption. Decanter centrifuges are preferred for very fine, non-fibrous particles with low specific gravities, though they typically require higher electrical input.
Q2: How does Jiangsu Zongheng manage wear on screw press flights when handling abrasive materials?
A: We apply a continuous tungsten carbide or cobalt-based alloy overlay onto the wear-prone areas of the flight tips. This process extends the service life of our screws by 3 to 5 times compared to standard stainless steels, especially in abrasive applications like starch processing or municipal sludge.
Q3: Can your screw press be integrated with waste heat evaporators for energy conservation?
A: Yes. The press cake is directed to our bundle or airflow dryers, while the filtrate is sent directly to our waste heat evaporators. This system design captures waste vapor from the drying stage to drive evaporation, significantly reducing the plant's overall energy footprint.
Q4: What certifications does Jiangsu Zongheng hold for pressure vessel fabrication?
A: We have held the ASME "U" Stamp certification since 2012, along with the Special Equipment Manufacturing License of the PRC (TS2232C42) for Class III medium and low-pressure vessels. Our facilities also maintain ISO9001 and ISO14001 quality and environmental system alignments.
Q5: What are the target moisture levels achieved by Jiangsu Zongheng screw presses on DDGS?
A: In standard corn or wheat DDGS operations, our single screw press reduces moisture levels from an initial 80-85% down to 55-65% in the pressed cake. This dewatering stage makes final thermal drying in bundle dryers highly efficient.
